Ordering a large custom LED neon sign involves more than choosing a design and size. Acrylic sheet limits, panel splitting, joint placement, power supply, wiring, waterproofing, shipping, and after-sales support can all affect the final result. This guide explains what to check before ordering and includes examples of large commercial LED neon signs we’ve produced.
Not every LED neon sign manufacturer has experience producing large commercial signs.
Many suppliers are more familiar with name signs, wedding signs, or smaller indoor decorative pieces. But once a sign reaches 8 feet, 10 feet, or even larger, the project becomes much more complex—from the acrylic backing and panel layout to power supply, shipping, and installation.
If you’re planning a large custom LED neon sign for a storefront, commercial space, event venue, or outdoor installation, here are a few things worth confirming before you place your order.
Don’t just ask:
“Can you make a large neon sign?”
What matters more is whether they have actually made one before.
A manufacturer with experience in large-scale projects should be able to show completed signs, production photos, or videos and explain the practical details involved.
For example:
These details tell you much more than a simple “Yes, we can make it.”
Large LED neon signs are often affected not only by acrylic sheet size, but also by packaging and shipping requirements.
The large acrylic sheets we commonly use are approximately:
7.9 ft × 3.9 ft (94.5" × 47")
This means that if one side of the sign is no more than about 47 inches and the other side is no more than about 94.5 inches, it may be possible to produce the backing as one piece, depending on the design and shipping conditions.
For example, a sign measuring around 64" × 46" still fits within a 94.5" × 47" acrylic sheet, so it does not necessarily need to be cut into multiple sections.
There is one detail that customers can easily overlook:
Not every manufacturer will actively tell you that your sign is going to be split.
Some suppliers mention this in their product descriptions, shipping policy, or FAQ. But realistically, not every customer reads every detail before placing an order.
As a result, some customers only discover after delivery that the 5-foot or 6-foot sign they ordered is made from multiple sections instead of one continuous backing.
Some suppliers choose to split signs once the overall width exceeds around 47 inches, even when the design could still fit on a 94.5" × 47" acrylic sheet.
That does not necessarily mean they are unable to produce a larger one-piece sign. In many cases, the reasons are practical:
There is nothing inherently wrong with splitting a large sign. For very large projects, it can actually be the safer and more practical option.
The important thing is that you should know before ordering whether your sign will be made as one piece or several sections.
Before paying, ask:
How many sections will the sign be divided into?
If it needs to be split, where will the joints be located?
That way, you won’t receive the sign and only then realize that what you expected to be one piece has been divided into several panels.
If a large sign has to be divided into multiple sections, production is not finished just because each individual panel is complete.
The factory should assemble the sections together before shipping and check how they line up.
Pay attention to:
Where the sign is split matters just as much as how many pieces it is divided into.
A well-planned panel layout will usually avoid cutting directly through long, continuous sections of neon tubing whenever possible.
A poorly planned split may simply run a straight line through the design, turning one continuous neon line into two separate sections. That can make the joint much more noticeable after installation.
So the real question is not only how many pieces, but also where the sign is divided.
For our large projects, we normally assemble the full sign before shipping and provide the customer with photos and videos of the completed setup.
Because if every individual section looks fine but the pieces do not align properly when assembled, the customer still ends up with a problem.
Large LED neon signs require more power than smaller signs, so the electrical setup needs to be planned accordingly.
Depending on the size of the sign, the amount of LED neon used, and the wiring layout, a large sign may require:
The correct power setup helps the sign illuminate evenly and reduces the risk of insufficient power or unstable operation.
For large projects, we also let customers know how many power supplies will be included and which sections they will power.
When a large sign is divided into multiple sections, there are usually more wires and connectors involved.
Without clear labeling, installation can quickly become confusing.
A practical approach is to label matching connections before shipping, for example:
A to A, B to B, C to C
The manufacturer should also provide photos or a wiring video showing how the different sections connect.
This makes it much easier for the customer or installer to assemble the sign without having to figure out the wiring system from scratch.
The larger the project, the more important this becomes.
If the sign will be installed outdoors, waterproofing should mean more than simply seeing the words “Outdoor Waterproof” on a product page.
Before ordering, ask whether the manufacturer can provide actual photos or videos of the waterproofing and testing process.
For large outdoor projects, this may include water testing or other checks to make sure the sealed areas are properly protected.
The power and control system also need to be considered separately.
Outdoor signs should use a waterproof power adapter suitable for outdoor conditions, but the controller itself is not waterproof and should always be installed in a dry, protected location.
An outdoor sign does not just need to survive a little rain. Over time, it may be exposed to moisture, direct sunlight, temperature changes, and seasonal weather, so the neon tubing, cable exits, and connection points all need proper protection.
Large custom signs are heavier and more difficult to ship than smaller neon signs.
This is also one reason some manufacturers prefer to divide larger signs into multiple sections.
The larger the acrylic backing, the stronger the packaging needs to be, and the greater the risk of bending, impact, or breakage during long-distance shipping.
Even with good packaging, accidents can still happen.
Before placing an order, make sure you understand the manufacturer’s policy for shipping damage.
For example:
Large custom signs usually represent a bigger investment, so it’s worth checking the warranty, replacement policy, and shipping-damage coverage before you order.
One of the best ways to evaluate a manufacturer’s experience is to look at actual completed projects.
Below are a few large LED neon signs we’ve produced. Each project had different dimensions, installation conditions, and panel layouts.
Location: Springdale, Arkansas
Size: Approximately 10 ft
Installation: Outdoor
Split into: 3 sections

This approximately 10-foot-wide outdoor LED neon sign was produced for Dog Party USA.
Because of the overall size, we divided the sign into three sections and assembled the complete sign before shipping to make sure all sections aligned correctly.
Since the sign was designed for long-term outdoor use, we also applied outdoor waterproofing and supplied waterproof power adapters suitable for the installation environment.
Location: Washington State
Size: Approximately 10 ft
Installation: Indoor
Split into: 2 sections

ARGENTUM is an approximately 10-foot-wide indoor LED neon sign.
The sign was divided into two sections. Once production was complete, we assembled both sections together to check the alignment and overall appearance before packing and shipping.
For a large indoor sign like this, a well-planned split can make shipping easier while still maintaining a unified appearance after installation.
Location: Utah
Size: Approximately 17.8 ft
Installation: Outdoor
Split into: 3 sections

JIGSAW'S GARAGE is one of the larger LED neon projects we’ve produced, measuring approximately 17.8 feet wide.
Because the sign was far larger than a single acrylic sheet, we divided it into three sections and assembled the complete sign for testing before shipment.
This was also an outdoor project, so the sign received the appropriate waterproofing treatment.
Even at nearly 18 feet wide, careful planning of the panel layout, joints, and wiring helped the finished installation maintain a clean and unified appearance.
A large LED neon sign is not simply a smaller sign scaled up.
For large projects, being divided into multiple sections is not necessarily a problem. In many cases, a well-designed split reduces shipping risk and makes installation easier.
What matters is knowing in advance whether the sign will be split, how many sections it will have, where the joints will be located, and how everything will be connected during installation.
If you’re planning a large commercial LED neon sign, it’s worth checking whether the manufacturer has experience with similar projects and understanding how your sign will be produced, powered, wired, packed, and shipped before production begins.
These details are much easier to address before the sign is made than after it arrives.
